The History of CKSA
Canoe Kayak Saint Antoinais
Over 50 Years of Navigation on the Dordogne
1962: ALSA CK Founded
The Association’s Origins The association was initially established and named by Mr. PETIT PRES, with the support of Mr. TILLET. In those early days, the club operated from a barn in Saint-Aulaye, yet it still produced canoe athletes of European calibre.
We are proud to count Olivier Bayle, now Vice-President of the FFCK (French Canoe Kayak Federation), among our former champions.
1985: Current Building Constructed
The current building was constructed for the club by the Saint-Antoine-de-Breuilh town hall, despite the association subsequently becoming inactive for a number of years…
1991: Rebirth
The club experienced a revival with a focus on recreational activities, which then led to a return to competition spearheaded by a young member, Frédéric Lhomme. He earned his federal certifications, recruited new members, and dedicated his time to the association’s growth until 2000.
1999 : CKSA
Under Abel BORDE’s guidance, the club’s name was changed to Canoë Kayak Saint-Antoinais – CKSA.
2001: First Employee Hired
Frédéric LHOMME served as the club’s first state-certified employee until April 2019. Throughout his tenure, the club competed and achieved national rankings in the Olympic discipline of Sprint and Marathon Racing, ultimately reaching the national 2 division (placing it among the top 40 French clubs in this discipline).
2010: Diversification & Inclusion
Our club expanded its activities to include diverse practices like adapted sports. Through the dedication of its permanent staff, the club increased its expertise and earned its first Handi Valide accreditation from CROS Aquitaine at the Bordeaux ConforExpo event.
2012: Facility Upgrades
This year marked a turning point in the practice of shared outdoor sports, notably with the first facilities for people with reduced mobility on our site: the construction of a 200m² wooden terrace. This strong desire to welcome “all audiences” is only the beginning of the work undertaken by the team of leaders.
2019: Financial Challenges
April 1, 2019: The club was forced to lay off its employee for economic reasons, who subsequently became President of the club and restored the club’s finances and its sports and educational project.
2024: Facility Renovation
The club is committed to securing the necessary renovation and development work to support its growth, enabling it to continue welcoming its members and diverse participants (schools, scouts, etc.) in a suitable and welcoming environment.
